An ancillary or helper program for the Microsoft NT command line backup program. NT Backup Ancilla provides a WISH (What It Should Have been) graphical interface, mirroring the capabilities of the command line program. In addition, it overcomes some of NT Backup's inherent limitations by allowing you to save preferences and settings for later re-use, launch Rdisk.exe to create an emergency boot disk, and capture the temporary catalog files created by the NT Backup program. A built in zip utility saves these catalog files in a compressed format to floppy or hard disk. This feature cuts restore times in half by eliminating the need to rebuild the catalog before a restore can be performed, a long standing complaint of anyone that's used Microsoft's NT Backup program.
This program is not for the Windows 2000 version of NT Backup because Microsoft has addressed many of these issues in the 2000 version. Those using Windows 2000 Backup can however still use Bengal Software's Services Ancilla to easily start and stop groups of services before and after backups.
Three versions. What's the difference?
NT Backup Ancilla is available in a 30-use Demonstration version, a
Light Edition, and a Professional Edition. The Light Edition has all the
functionality as a front-end for NT Backup, but includes a limited version
of the NT Services Ancilla. Users of the Professional Edition will enjoy
full functionality of both NT Backup Ancilla and NT Services Ancilla. For
