Res-Q Automated Backup - FAQ's

How do I prevent others from viewing information in my backups?

Res-Q optionally allows you to choose encryption of backup files, based on a keyword that you specify.  Res-Q uses industry standard DES encryption techniques which prevent unauthorized users from viewing the contents of backup files.  You may view a listing of filenames contained in the compressed backup file, but without the keyword, no file contents may be viewed or extracted.  To enable encryption, check the box in Res-Q's "User Info" tab.  To initially set or to later change the keyword, click on the button next to the keyword box.  You will be prompted to enter the current keyword to enable the change, then to twice enter the new keyword, for verification purposes.  At no time does Res-Q display or store the keyword in a readable format.   Res-Q encryption keywords are case-sensitive and must be entered exactly the same way in order to extract files from a backup.  If you change your keyword, the change will apply only to future backups, not to those which have already been performed.

CAUTION: RES-Q PERSONNEL DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO RETRIEVE YOUR BACKUPS IF YOU FORGET YOUR KEYWORD.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RECORD YOUR KEYWORD EXACTLY AS USED AND STORE IT IN A SECURE LOCATION.
