Res-Q Automated Backup - FAQ's

Running as a service on NT/2000

Res-Q can be installed and run as a system service under Windows NT or 2000 operating systems. In this mode of operation, Res-Q operates in the context of the Local System account and has the privileges of that account. To install as a system service, run the Res-Q executable (res-q.exe) at a command prompt, with a -i (for "install") parameter following the command. The command line would look like this:

C:\Program Files\Res-Q Automated Backup\res-q.exe -i

Note the space between "res-q.exe" and the "-i" parameter. After installation, you can start Res-Q through the system services control panel. If you later wish to uninstall Res-Q, you must first uninstall the service or you will have service startup errors when the system is rebooted. This is caused by having a system service set up, but the executable program to which it refers has been removed. Since you need to run Res-Q to uninstall the service, the order of uninstallation is important. Uninstall the service first, then the Res-Q program. To uninstall the service, use the same method as above, but with a "-u" (for "uninstall") parameter. If you have already uninstalled the program and no longer have access to it, you can also uninstall any service by using the INSTSRV.EXE file, contained in the Windows NT/2000 resource kits. Please refer to that program's documentation for instructions on its use.
