Res-Q Automated Backup - FAQ's

What do I need in order to run Res-Q?

Res-Q Backup Agent has been developed as a 32-bit Windows application.  It does not run under DOS or Windows 3.x, but will run under Windows 95/98/NT/ME and as a service under Windows 2000 and XP.  At present, we do not have versions that run under other operating systems such as Mac or Linux.

Hardware requirements are minimal.  Any computer that can run the supported operating systems can run Res-Q.  As little as 3MB of disk space is required for installation, although storage of local copies of backup files can consume more space.  This is a configurable option through the 'set options' function of Res-Q and may be set to use alternate or remote mapped drives, provided they remain available during backup procedures.  The only other hardware requirement is a working modem that is supported by the Windows Dial-Up Networking services.  Backups may be transmitted via the Internet using either a dial-up or direct connection to your local Internet Service Provider.

You must be using TCP/IP protocol and have FTP access to the Internet. In Windows 2000 environments, you must be logged in as Administrator to install Res-Q and after installation, your account must have sufficient rights to back up the target files.

In Client mode, Res-Q does not require Internet connectivity or TCP/IP, making it ideal for client workstation backups where the internal network is firewalled or Internet access is otherwise restricted.
