Res-Q Automated Backup - FAQ's
How do I minimize the amount of time it takes for Res-Q to perform a backup?
There are several stages to a Res-Q backup but the longest one, due
to communications limitations, is the transmission of the backup file to
the Res-Q server. You can do several things to speed up the overall
process. Here's a checklist:
-
if possible, backup only modified files
-
use a fast modem, ISDN, cable, xDSL or other digital connection device
-
faster computers will backup faster. If possible, move the backup
to a faster workstation
-
shut down any other running programs before leaving Res-Q to run
-
defragment your hard drive periodically
-
use a digital or data grade telephone line
-
choose a time when your Internet Service Provider is not busy, (ie: non-peak
Internet times)
-
choose maximum data compression; compression takes far less time than transmission
-
if using an external modem, check the speed and UART type (16550 recommended)
of the port it's connected to
-
check modem and dialup networking settings for adequate maximum transmission
speeds
