Res-Q Automated Backup - FAQ's

How do I use Res-Q to perform a virus scan or check the disk before backing up?

Res-Q has the ability to automatically start a "pre-process" file each time it begins a backup.  This feature is useful if you wish to have each Res-Q backup preceded by a virus scan, disk check, or other procedure.  Rather than incorporate these features directly, Res-Q allows you to choose which program you want to use, keeping the feature more generic and flexible and keeping Res-Q as lean and fast as possible.  To enable a preprocess, in the Res-Q "options" tab, check the "preprocess batch file" checkbox.  Then use the browse button to choose the file name of the preprocess executable or batch file to run.  You may put one or more commands or executables into a batch file and then reference the batch file as a preprocess.  To have Res-Q wait for the preprocess to finish before continuing the backup, check the "wait for preprocessing" checkbox.  This allows time for the preprocess to finish its job before the backup actually begins.  One caveat though -- your preprocess MUST be capable of running unattended and continuing on errors or Res-Q will wait forever for it to finish -- just as you instructed it to!
