Res-Q uses several methods to ensure the safety and privacy of your backup data. For security reasons, we do not publicly disclose all details, but here is an overview of our security measures. When you produce a backup file, your encryption keyword is used to "seed" the encryption routine, which double-encrypts all files contained in the backup. Res-Q does not store any passwords in the clear on the host machine. Then when the backup file is transmitted to our server, we employ a modified form of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) which utilizes one-time-password (OTP) and challenge-response user authentication schemes to log you in to our server. And remember, your backup file was already double-encrypted even before it was sent! So, after you log in to our server, your encrypted file is transmitted securely. Even if a hacker were to use packet sniffing technology to capture your transmitted passwords, they would be unable to use those passwords (even if they did successfully decrypt them), as the passwords are destroyed and not re-used after the current session. This method allows us to use proven, reliable Internet based FTP technology, while at the same time protecting your sensitive data and passwords from prying eyes. Once your backup file is stored on our server, it remains safely stored for up to 60 days. During that time we back up our server, including your backups, and store those in a secure fireproof vault.
