When you first download and install Res-Q, it will be operating in a demonstration mode. Res-Q can operate in one of three modes in addition to the demo mode. Upon registration, you will be prompted to choose the mode of operation as either Client, Personal or Professional. The differences are as follows:

Res-Q Professional Edition is an advanced automation agent designed to reliably back up critical files according to user defined parameters and then securely transmit those backup files to secure offsite storage. Professional Edition contains all available functions and features, including strong encryption, bulletproof file transfers, automation and offsite storage. May be used on standalone, workstation or server computers.

Personal Edition contains all the same features and functionality of Professional, with the exception of automation (timer) functions. May be used on standalone, workstation or server computers.

In Client mode, Res-Q is designed to be used on a LAN workstation in a client-server relationship, using your own server as the storage repository for workstation backups. The server should then be running Res-Q Professional Edition, which allows it to back up it’s own files and the workstation repository and send those backups offsite to our secure server. Client mode offers a simplified user interface, since many of the features such as remote operation, communications and file transfer are not relevant in this mode.

You can download a 30-use version that will backup your system and upload your test files to our server. All the functionality of the Personal Edition is available for up to 30 uses, at which time you will be prompted to register and convert to one of the other three modes of operation.

To begin using Res-Q, you only need to enter a few basic file selection and user criteria.  Pressing the Start button will give you a choice of launching Res-Q immediately or on a scheduled basis (Professional or Client versions).  Subsequent backups are handled automatically by Res-Q with no further intervention required.  Advanced users can take advantage of Res-Q’s ability to customize many of the settings to suit their needs.  Res-Q Automated Backup compresses all selected files into a single “transfer” file using a process that is 100% compatible with industry standard Pkzip® file formatting.  Files may be restored in whole or in part, using standard Pkunzip®, Winzip® or other utilities supporting this format.  There is not necessarily a need to have Res-Q on the target system or to re-install Res-Q before restoring files from a backup however, Res-Q’s own restore utility offers additional features not found in generic unzipping programs.
